Unpicking language through the language of unpicking.
A series of interventions, 2025 – ongoing.
Exploring and questioning narratives through the site specific placement of words made from threads of unpicked cloth. Each temporary intervention considers the significance of a word in relation to its context and the unpicked item used to form the letters.
The project takes its title from the Latin word “texere” meaning “to weave” or “to construct with elaborate care”, and is the root of “textiles”, “text” and “context”. This body of work plays with this connection and carefully “deconstructs” or “unweaves” to invite us to challenge and question the construction of narratives and meaning of both text and textiles.
