“Numb”, unpicked child’s garment, broken hourglass, 2025
A piece that holds multiple narratives connected to maternity. Made in response to the loss of children’s lives in a world of increasing conflict and violence. Through the act of unpicking a child’s garment, I attempt to connect with the pain of mothers who have lost their children. For this piece, the red unpicked threads are painstakingly fed into the tiny hole of a broken hourglass. Empty of sand, no longer able to count time, the glass vessel holds the threads within it, simultaneously trapping and protecting them.
Part of my wider practice that explores unpicking as a creative act.
