“Numb”, unpicked child’s garment, broken hourglass, 2025

A piece that holds multiple narratives connected to maternity and life cycles. Made in response to the loss of children’s lives in a world of increasing conflict and violence. Through the act of unpicking a child’s garment, I imagine the pain of mothers who have lost their children. For this piece, the red unpicked threads are painstakingly fed into the tiny hole of a broken hourglass. Empty of sand, no longer able to count time, the glass vessel holds the threads within it, simultaneously trapping and protecting them, each thread representative of a life cut short.
